Prayer Answered
I’ve learned many things during my 69 years of life. One of the most incredible lessons I’ve learned is to never under estimate the power of prayer. I’m convinced God hears my prayers. He answers my prayers and He grants miracles.
Four years ago, I received the most powerful, remarkable, mind blowing miracle of all time. It started with a severe headache. I went to an emergency clinic where I was treated for a migraine headache. I was prescribed some very strong medication that put me to sleep for 36 hours.
When I woke up, my eye was swollen so severely I wasn’t able to open it up. I went back to the emergency clinic. I no longer had a headache. In fact, I had no pain at all. I was expecting to get an injection or eyedrops or maybe both. What happened next was shocking. The doctor told me she was sending me to Plano Medical City where there were doctor’s who specialized in eyes. It was all arranged. They are expecting me.
When I arrived at the hospital I was quickly taken to radiology for an MRI. A little while later, they performed a CT scan. I was eventually moved to a private room in the intensive care unit. A nurse came in to tell me that a doctor would be in soon to discuss my condition.
A few hours later, a group of five doctors walked into the room. Each of them introduced themselves and began telling me what type of medical specialty they practiced. My mind is wondering why do I need a Hematologist, an Infectious Disease Specialist, an Ear-Nose-Throat doctor, a Neurologist and an Ophthalmologist.
The doctors began to consult with each other openly, but I didn’t understand what was going on. Finally, one by one they began to explain my diagnosis. I had an extremely rare disease known as Orbital Cellulitis. They stated this disease was so rare it was impossible to find treatment documentation. My husband, Paul, and I were told at that time the mortality rate from this disease was not good. So far, no one had survived this disease.
After further conferring, the doctors had a plan. I had bacteria growing in my sinus very close to my eye and brain that would require surgery by the ENT. The Infectious Disease Specialist would begin intravenous medicine. Because the MRI indicated a blood clot in my jugular and another clot close to my brain the Hematologist will prescribe and monitor blood thinning medication. The Neurologist will perform more MRIs to be certain the bacteria or blood clots haven’t entered by brain. The Ophthalmologist will evaluate any vision impairment.
I was literally in no pain. I felt fine. My only issue was my eye would not open and it was swollen. When they all left the room, I turned to Paul, and ask with a smile, “Am I being punked? Where’s Ashton Kutcher?” I could not believe this was happening. I kept waiting to wake up and learn it’s only a dream, or rather a nightmare.
When I awoke from my sinus surgery, surprisingly, I was in no pain. I thought great I don’t need any pain medication. I felt ok except my eye was still swollen shut.
The doctor came by to say he removed the sinus bacteria. He said now we just wait to see that it doesn’t come back. Alone in my room, I began to pray. I remember praying no stop for a very long
Then I began to just talk to God as if His presence was there in the room. time.Months before, Paul and I had received Guardianship of our God son, Josh. As I spoke to God, I remember saying, “Really God? You gave us Josh to raise and now I’m going to leave him.” About that time, I received a voice message from Pastor George and Pastor Travis. They both were praying for me. As I listened to their prayers, I felt peace.
I stayed awake for three days praying and playing the Pastor’s voice messages over and over. Then I slept.
When I was released from the hospital, I still wasn’t out of the danger zone. I still had the two life threatening blood clots my doctor was attempting to dissolve. I was still at risk that the sinus bacteria may come back. And, my eyesight was yet to be determined because my eye was still closed shut.
I received home healthcare and had multiple doctor visits weekly for a couple of months after returning home. Christian World’s care team brought food to us on a regular basis. I met church members I’d never seen before who said they would pray for me. I received text messages from members I did not know, telling me their small group was praying for me.
Then the blood clots disappeared. The bacteria never returned. My affected eye opened with a little vision impairment. But, I survived. The doctors told me I was the first patient they knew of that survived Orbital Cellulitis.
As I began to recover and went back for checkups, the doctors would smile and say, “You are a miracle.” “Yes, I know,” I would say. “I received a miracle from God.”
I am positive, He hears our prayers. I am positive, He answers our prayers. I’m living proof, He grants miracles. I will never underestimate the power of prayer
